Leon Haslam met Elton John in London last week when the legendary pop star was at the unveiling of a new photographic exhibition by Anderson and Low called Champions.
The exhibition has taken several years to shoot and is to benefit the Elton John Aids Foundation charity.
Haslam is the only motorcycle racer among the 40 athletes – including Venus Williams and Thierry Henry – featured in the exhibition that is currently on display at the National Portrait Gallery, London.
According to the official press release from Anderson and Low, ‘the striking, iconic nude studies of leading international athletes form the basis of this first showing of their Champions portfolio.
'These works celebrate the achievements and physique of international sportspersons at the height of their careers through classically posed, black and white portraits.’
Haslam said: “I was delighted to help when they approached me to do the shoot. All the athletes gave their services for free but ten of the prints have already been auctioned off which has raised £80,000 for Elton John Aids Foundation.
“I got to meet Elton himself and it was a real pleasure.
“We had a good chat and he thanked me for helping out.
“My Father had met him before years ago so it was nice for me to get the chance to do the same.
"He had a great personality, but after what Dad had told me I had expected that. We're both big fans of his."
Haslam’s picture is due to be auctioned in the second batch of ten next month.
There is also a book of all 40 images available through the Elton John Aids Foundation.
Haslam is going to be at Qatar later this month and then flies to Spain for a test with the Stiggy Motorsport Honda but is due to be home in time for Christmas.
