Both Cal Crutchlow and HM Plant Honda team-mate Leon Haslam had their first experience of the 2008 Honda Fireblade at the official Pirelli test at Almeria, both finishing day one with quick times under their belts.
“I’m pleased with the base setting straight out of the box,” said Crutchlow.
Obviously after watching the World Superbikes at the weekend, we know Ten Kate haven’t done much testing here, but for us to come here and be quick straight away is impressive.
“The Honda is probably the newest bike – we’ve not had too many problems so far – we’ve just changed a couple of small things to suit me and my riding style and I was a lot happier at the end of the day.
“I’m pleased with the tyres, I’m pleased with how things are going and I’ve been quite consistent which is good.”
One of the most impressive features of the new Fireblade for Cal Crutchlow is the size of the bike.
Crutchlow said: “It’s so small – I’m amazed how they can build a superbike that is so small.
“The chassis is good from standard and it turns really well which is brilliant.”
Crutchlow is also enthusiastic about teaming up with new team-mate Leon Haslam, finishing half a second behind the pocket rocket after day one with an unofficial 1.37.9.
“Me and Leon get on really well and we talk about stuff we’ve done and share information.
“We can both benefit from each other, and we’re both fast, both young and both willing to give everything which is the main thing – we want first and second.”
