Marco Simoncelli was fastest on track to earn provisional pole

In the first 250cc Qualifying practice Italian Marco Simoncelli of the Metis Gilera team was the fastest on track with a time of 1'23.953, earning him provisional pole position.
Spanish rider Hector Barbera, racing for Team Toth Aprilia, glimpsed provisional pole briefly before finally finishing second place, just two tenths of a second slower than rival Marco Simoncelli.
The Red Bull KTM 250 team riders Mika Kallio and Hiroshi Aoyama took third and fourth place respectively, seperated by less than one tenth of a second.
