Craig Jones sits sixth in the World Supersport standings after claiming a solid fifth place finish last time out at the Nurburgring.

With six rounds complete the British Parkalgar Honda rider is 28 points behind new series leader Andrew Pitt, but with some of his favourite tracks and two British rounds coming up he remains confident he can climb his way up the leaderboard.

In Germany last weekend, Jones immediately gelled with the undulating and technical track and looked to have the speed and race pace to run with the leaders until he was wiped out in the turn one crash and was forced to jump on his spare motorbike in the restarted race.

Jones also had to deal with riding with an injured right leg after a footrest went through his leathers and into the back of his knee in the crash.

Jones said: “I feel gutted because I’d been fast all weekend and honestly feel that I could have been in the fight for the podium with Pitt, Brookes and Parkes on Sunday.

“On the other hand I guess I’ve been pretty lucky because after being taken out at least the race got red flagged, which meant I was able to restart.”

“The problem was that I had to go out on the number two bike. Although there isn’t much difference between the two bikes, my number two machine hadn’t been out the garage all weekend and the little things I’d done to my number one bike meant it just didn’t feel quite the same.”
