MotoGP: Eugene Laverty targets more points in Barcelona

Irish privateer Eugene Laverty has targeted another top 15 finish in this weekend’s Catalunya 250GP after his career best dry race result in Italy.

Laverty scored a 13th place in Mugello and he’s already amassed more points in the opening six races than he did during a torrid rookie campaign for the LCR Honda squad.

Heading to his Blusens Aprilia team’s home race, Laverty said he was hoping new suspension specs will help him further and he said: “Mugello was a great race for me.

“I was confident going into last weekend that the circuit would suit my chassis. Now we move to the Catalunya circuit which is another flowing track so I’ll be looking to pick up another handful of points.

“The biggest positive for me last weekend was the reduced gap to the race winner. This is always something I refer to as it really shows where you are rather than the position, which can vary due to non-finishers. The stopwatch doesn’t lie!

“We are hoping to try some different suspension specifications this weekend to continue our progress up the field. Hopefully we can step it up a notch further ahead of my home GP at Donington.”
