Catalunya GP: Scott Redding talks stunning front row

British rookie Scott Redding was in superb form in Catalunya today to claim his second front row start in just seven 125GP races.

The Gloucester rider finished today’s qualifying session in fourth to secure his first front row since he became the youngest front row qualifier in history at the season’s opening race in Qatar.

A best lap of 1.51.101 in the home race of Blusens Aprilia team and the 15-year-old told MCN: I am really shocked to have got on the front row because I’ve never really gone that well at this track. I’ve done Spanish championship races but I’ve not really got on with the track.”

Redding believes his return to the points in Mugello six days ago helped boost his confidence after he’d failed to get a top 15 in his previous three outings.

Redding, who scored a brilliant fifth on his debut in Qatar, said: “Being back in the points has really boosted my confidence and it feels like I am riding like I was at the start of the season. It is going to be a tough race but hopefully I can get away with the leading bunch. There is a long straight here so hopefully I can get in the slipstream.

“I ran in the leading bunch at the first race in Qatar and learned a lot, so it won’t be a totally new experience. I know I’m on the front row but to be honest I’ll be happy with a front row.”

Redding said he was hoping for a positive result to boost his confidence even further with the next race coming on home soil at Donington Park.

“This race is the team’s home race, so I want to do a good job for them, but also a good result will be a great confidence lift ahead of my home race, “said Redding, who currently lies 13th in the world championship standings.
