hugelean, did you miss stoner in 250? he's always been a quick front runner. also, i never said he was slow on the customer honda. when he kept it on the black stuff he still showed potential, he just seemed to struggle with the change more than pedrosa did. and the fact marco was on a customer honda as well, i dont know why i brought that up, still cant really make a comparison there. it was his rookie year in the class. 800's were a sort of clean start. the change in riding style put everyone on a level playing field. people used to 990's had to change, people used to 250's had to change, people coming in from WSB had to change, every manufacturer had to change. ducati made the fastest bike in a straight line, stoner adapted best to the 800's and gelled best with his team and equipment. all stoner did in his first year was moan about wanting a factory ride, ducati gave him that and his confidence went through the roof. i'd say thats one of the biggest things you need in any sport after talent. i agree on the spectating side of things though. 500's were great, but for me the 990's were the best to watch. not because rossi was winning, although that was often entertaining to see, but because the racing was closer and the fighting for first just seemed more intense, with more bitter feuds between some of the riders. maybe that was rossi doing the "show" thing, or maybe it was genuine, but it was definitely good to see. i watch the GP's on eurosport and i remember a time when toby, julian and randy would make little comments about how dull F1 is, and how insane a 5 second win was when Rossi occasionally did it. we dont hear that anymore...
