Jerez MotoGP: Honda and Yamaha await Moto2 engine decision

Honda and Yamaha have submitted bids to be the exclusive engine supplier to the new Moto2 600cc four-stroke class in 2010, MCN can reveal.

Kawasaki had been installed as early frontrunners but didn’t bid, while Suzuki also declined to table an offer after lengthy meetings with Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta prior to last weekend’s Japanese MotoGP round at the Twin Ring Motegi.

Honda and Yamaha though did express serious interest, and both will submit formal proposals this week before Ezpeleta reaches a decision on the successful bidder this Saturday at the Spanish GP in Jerez.

Ezpeleta told MCN: “I’m now waiting for a final proposal from Honda and Yamaha. We have requested they sell engines to Dorna.

“We will pay for that engine and supply to the Moto2 championship.

“We have to see what they can offer, but we need people from Honda or Yamaha who can take care of the engines at races, we need to consider the quality of the engine, the reliability and the performance, and obviously the cost.”
