Norton NRV588 races again

This is going to be huge for GB race fans.

I’ve just returned from today’s Thundersport GB meeting at Mallory Park. I don’t normally do club meetings but made an exception for this one as I had heard that the Norton NRV588 being developed by Brian Crighton would be making it’s racing debut.

It was the JPS Norton’s of the late 1980’s that first got me into racing. Despite a few electrical gremlins (cooling fan at rear of the bike) causing the bike to overheat the bike just made it out in time to start the race, albeit at the back of the grid.

Talented 250cc rider Lee Dickinson had qualified the bike on the front row of the grid in 4th.

Watching Dicko work his way through the field was like going back in time. The Norton is just like I remembered an absolute rocket down the straights and Dicko blitzed passed many Japanese superbikes.

Sadly the motorcycle overheated and Dicko slid off at Edwinas due to water on his rear tyre after only eight laps. I urge everybody who is a UK bike racing fan to get behind this project.

Talking to the Norton team today there are big plans afoot including road bikes and a new factory being built at Donington.

To the Norton team many thanks for winding the clock back. Please up the PR on this fantastic project and get the nation behind you.

I have added photos from todays meeting.
