Blink and you’ll miss it. During the second day of testing at the Almeria circuit out in Spain Tom Sykes highsided his Rizla Suzuki right in front of MCN reporter Rob Hull who just happened to be holding a video camera.
The crash, which took place at the double right-hander before entering the back straight, was in dry conditions with Sykes building up to speed.
“There’s nothing damaged,” said Sykes whilst holding an ice pack against his back. “It’s the usual bumps you get from highsiding.
“I was just building up speed and had dropped into the 1.37’s and was consistently running in them. I was pushing to finding the limit, and I think I’ve found it at that conrer.”
Rizla team boss Jack Valentine agreed with his rider: “Tom said he felt it moving a bit and wanted to explore a bit more and pushed it too much. There’s not much damage, just the fairings mostly.”
As you can see from the video, Northwest 200 Ducati rider Michael Rutter played good Samaritan, giving the stricken Sykes a lift back to the pits.
Sykes headed out on track again on his number two bike just half an hour after the crash .
