MCN Fleet: BMW R1200RT LE's range countdown is addictive

1 of 1

Is it only me or does everyone with a range countdown on their bike push it to the last mile? It’s been a while since I’ve owned a bike with one and I’m starting to find it slightly addictive. I now refuse to refuel when the light comes on, which on the R1200RT is after just over 200 aggressive miles.

Once the fuel light is illuminated the reserve gives me around 45 miles until empty. I then embark on my stupid mind game where I have to get as far as possible on the remaining fuel. I’ve pushed the range to nine miles remaining, before heading for the nearest garage. There’s always more fuel left in the bike than I anticipate, because I usually manage to add 22 litres and it’s a 25-litre tank.
