The most expensive places in the UK for bike insurance

A study conducted by The Bike Insurer has revealed the most expensive locations in the UK for motorcycle insurance, and unsurprisingly London tops the list.

The company analysed 900,000 quotes over a period of three years and found that the 13 most expensive places in the UK for bike insurance are within central London, with an average cost of £691.

The most expensive places to insure your bike:

1. Western Central London, £691
2. East London, £647
3. West London, £621
4. North West London, £620
5. North London, £606

Outside London the most expensive region for bike insurance is the north west, with an average of £509 in Manchester. Overall motorcycle insurance is more expensive in towns and cities compared to rural areas.

The average cost of a claim in a built up area is £480, compared to £230 in non-city areas.

How to make it cheaper

Consider the type of coverage
Social, domestic and pleasure excluding commuting policies are much cheaper than other types of policies.

Keep it garaged
If you have access to a garage you can store your motorcycle in overnight then this will knock a significant amount off the price of your premium.

No Claims Bonus
A No Claims Bonus can make a significant impact on the price of your policy, especially over the first five years. A biker with nine years NCB will pay 70% than they would without any NCB.
