Motorcycle insurance bargains: Suzuki GSX650F

Published: 27 September 2009

Motorcycle insurance costs are an important consideration for any bike buyer. That's why MCN is highlighting some of the best cheap-to-insure motorcycles out there. First up is the Suzuki GSX650F

Insurance group: 10
Used price: £3,600 - £5,440
New price: £5,440
Engine: 656cc inline four, 6 gears
Power: 86bhp
Top speed: 135mph
Weight: 216kg

The Suzuki GSX650F may seem like just a Bandit with a fairing, but it's mix of fun, practicality, performance and value for money makes it a winner - especially since it's cheap to insure too.

At group 10, the capable GSX650F is 5 groups lower than it's full-on GSX-R600 brother. Of course in performance terms it can't compete with the gixer 6, but if you're on a budget its sporty-looking (especially in gixer blue & white), easy to ride and far more flexible than the gixer. It would make a fantastic sports-tourer.

The Suzuki GSX650F revs a little higher than the Bandit it's based on and boasts a healthy 85bhp. It has a nice usable spread of power but without sacrifising the top end rush you expect from an inline four 600.

The GSX650F also gets an uprated shock for more poise and lower bars for a sportier riding position - but it's still all-day comfortable. It's also got a lot of nice touches for a budget bike, including adjustable brake and clutch levers, mirrors that work and tasty GSX-R style clocks.

From a distance, the GSX650F could be mistaken for a much sportier and more expensive machine. Non-bikers will be none the wiser. That and it's low insurance group make the Suzuki GSX650F a biking bargain.
