My R1200 GS Adventure. Although purchased in September 2012, I believe it’s actually 2013 ‘model year’.

This bike was ordered from CW Motorcycles of Dorchester, to my requirements. I wanted to avoid Electronic Suspension, preferring instead to fit the best shocks money can buy for this machine – Wilbers (cost £1000+). The rear shock includes a remote preload adjuster. Unlike the stock items, these shocks are fully serviceable, and provide a far superior ride to stock items (ESA or manual).

Also included are ABS, Trip Computer, Heated Grips, and Low ratio first gear (approx 10% lower, a factory option on the Adventure model only).

The bike is shown with mounts for the best panniers on the market – Jesse Luggage aluminium boxes, made in the USA. They have a stated capacity of 105 litres per pair, and yet due to clever design are narrow (cost new today around £1200). These are available by negotiation, or the mounts will be removed. I’m not showing them in the pictures, as they’ve been used on two earlier GS’s, and hence unlike the bike they are no longer pristine (but could easily be re-coated).

If you’re looking for one of the last ‘twin-cams’, with state-of-the-art suspension (and possibly panniers), together with the essential extras but without the unnecessary complexity and future cost of ESA etc, then you’ve found it. At around 10,000 miles, they say a BMW boxer is fully run-in.

First to view will buy!.

MCN review overall verdict:  "The world’s biggest monster traillie is a ridiculous concept that on paper at least shouldn’t work at all. It weighs 223kg, the suspension is three inches taller than the standard R1200GS and with a 33-litre tank full of fuel you need to be Britain’s strongest man to lift it off the sidestand. But in reality it’s one of the best..."   Read full review
