Staff Blog: Top Box Woes

You might have read in my recent long term report, featured in July 24 issue of MCN, about fitting the top box to the Yamaha Fazer8. I’m testing different types of luggage to see which is the easiest to use and which I prefer.

So far I’m not overly impressed with the top box. Initially fitting the box the rear tail unit had to be cut making the rack a permanent fixture, which I found a little annoying. Clipping the top box in place for the first time I set out on my journey and about 10 miles from home I felt a whack in the centre of my back and glanced in my mirrors to see something black bouncing down the A47, narrowly missing my hubby who was following. I pulled over at the next available lay by and realised that instead of the pillion back-rest being attached to the top box there was just three screws. We weren’t on a safe enough stretch of road to try and retrieve the pad so it’s now another bit of fly tipping somewhere in deepest, darkest Leicestershire.

So far I’m not enamored with this box but will continue to use it to see if my opinion changes as I become more familiar with it.
