Michelin v Pirelli
First rides & tests

I’ve spent this week getting to know the new Pirelli Angel GT tyres I fitted on Monday. I’ve been using my bike for commuting to work and the other day I rode the 320-mile round trip down to Ramsgate and back to see my brother Ben. We took a couple of days off and did a car trackday at the Nurburgring.
Thankfully all this riding has been dry, but as you can see from the size of my chicken strips, I haven’t really been hooning around yet.
I’ve noticed some differences between these and the Michelin Pilot Power 3s I’ve just taken off. They’re two different genres of tyre: the Michelin’s a sports tyre and the Pirellis are sports touring, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the Michelin’s are sportier. There’s not so much of a difference in actual grip, it’s just that the Pirelli’s aren’t as sharp, or as light steering.
But the Pirelli’s promise to be very good in the wet and hopefully they’re going to last for my ride down through France, Portugal and Spain in a couple weeks. I’ll be riding them around Snetterton soon, as well. I’m going to help fellow MCN-er, Andy Davidson with his first ever trackday and the Hyperstrada will be the chase bike.
