An Unexpected Choice

Yesterday was an interesting day. My girlfriend Kate has taken to riding pillion and we are planning a couple of trips for next year, including a two-week jaunt to Spain. As some of you may know, I currently have two bikes in my garage - a 2005 Fazer 1000 and a %X9198 VFR800. The VFR is the bike I usually use for touring as I am less precious with it. However, with more two up touring planned I have decided to look at getting a tourer. Today we test-rode two of the market leaders - The Honda Pan ...

Best ride for pillion

I took a pillion to Brighton on Sunday. I've had people on the back before but this was the first time I've done a proper distance, and the first time I've been up to speed. The FZ6 handled it fine (adjusted the pre-load and tyres) but it was a bit rough for 'im on the back. When MCN review bikes they never seem to have any comments from a pillion, but it would be handy to know. I mean, it's a given with something like the BMW LT or Pan European that it's gonna be good for someone on the back. ...

un marked Pan european in Surrey gets another nick.

On my way home in the car on the A3 on Saturday evening 03/06/10 I was passed by a Yamaha doing in excess of 120mph, I checked my mirrors and sure enough a burgundy Pan European was trailing him at about half a mile behind. Pan rider in black jacket with a nice flip system white helmet with a nice check pattern around the rim. they both promptly went trough a 50mph camera, sliced up a few cars and disappeared into the Kingston bypass. obviously the police rider was getting enough video evidence for another dangerous biker prosecution. Yam rider ...

Honda Launch

Well, today Honda officially launched the new VFR1200 in their showrooms. They are keen to point out that this is not a sports tourer. No, this is a new kind of bike which Honda claim to be "road sports" Hmmm. Well seeing it sitting there with with it's optional factory panniers, it is difficult to see it as anything but a tourer. I have to say that in the metal, it looks a lot better than the photo's that have been circulating. Not bad actually, and certainly different which isn't a bad thing, although today's biker will probably brand it ...
