Use of horn..

I'm trying my best to ride like I'm on Mod.2 test (15th October) - riding down a side street today, a work-mans van is parked up on my nearside, with aforesaid workman rummaging in a side door, back to the road. A vehicle approaches towards us on the offside.  What should I do?  I decided to give way to the oncoming vehicle and waited, on the basis that if bloke steps backwards into the road, I could theoretically hit him...so I sit there with oncoming vehicle looking at me like I'm an idiot...which is open to debate.  I think I ...

Woman rider, first bike, 1000cc??

I'm doing my DAS at the moment, enjoying it, and considering what bike to buy. My instructor recommended, since I want to do touring and long distances on motorways, that I get nothing smaller than a 900-1000cc. However, I have a gravel drive, and a ramp up to a single garage, and I'm concerned about manouvering that sort of weight.A friend recommends a BMW F800, with a low seat. But I'm not *that* small. Is a 1000cc first bike for a woman a nuts idea? Has anyone any experience / recommendations? Thanks,Jake

One for the ladies (and any men who can help!)

Hi everyone,I passed my CBT Monday and am loving riding my bike but I have a problem with my boots I went out and bought all my kit a couple of weeks ago and the only boots I could find that I liked and were my size, were a pair of Frank Thomas Venus sport boots.Problem is, I am on my second pair already! And this pair failed me this morning The zips just seem to be rubbish, as I was riding along this morning, the zip just split open. Please can anyone advise on a decent ...

Yamaha XJ900F first big bike

Hi people; Been offered a 1992 XJ900F by a friend of mine for %XA3300 as first 'big bike' for when I get my full licence - I'm currently on CBT. Long story cut short is that the bike was running fine until two years ago  then got stripped apart by mutual friend to fix exhaust bolt and polish it up and that's how bike is at moment. It was running ok and luckily he didn't take engine apart! So big questions - how suitable are they as a first big bike Are they easy are they to handle in traffic and ...

Split link or Rivet link connector on chain?

Ive got a couple of bikes Enduro 450s reading online it seems that all larger cc bike chains have rivet links and small cc bikes split links. Is there a definitive limit with split links? I recently got a JT power transfer chain from chains and sprockets.com  and the 520 chain came with both a rivet link and a split link, so for my WR450 if i dont need to change chains quickly should I fit the rivet link for better strenght? but then I heard many road racers  also use split links???

Labor cost

I'm real busy right now at work so I let a buddy run my vtx for a bit. Brought it back today and said there's a little 'tic' in the engine. Nope there a BIG TICK-A-TICK in all the valves.  Wondering what the book calls for for labor time to pull a 2002 vtx 1800c. The intake valve clearance is .080 so I'm expecting the cam and rocker need replacing. OH I need to tell you when I drained the oil only 2.5 qts came out... The rest must be hiding up in there somewhere because he ALWAYS checked the ...

Faulty gearbox CG125

Evening all!Bought a Hongdou 125 (Honda CG125 clone) as a non runner to rebuild get back on the road after 22 years off it.  Gearbox has a problem in that you can only select 1st, Neutral or 2nd but if you turn the engine using the crankshaft bolt then you can go all the way through the gears, but on the next turn of crankshaft it can only select 1st,N,2nd again. Any ideas? I'm in an IVA so sadly I couldn't buy a brand new CBR125R like my niece so stuck with this for the moment! Tim

Honda Warraty / Servicing

Hi All,I have recently purchased a Honda CBF 125 for commuting to work, now due a 2,500 mile service and is only 1 year old.My thoughts were to get this bike serviced at a local M/C garage, 50% less than Honda. however does this affect the warranty?Mu understanding was, dealers cannot enforce this due to anti competition rules,   my local garage seemed to believe Honda would not play ball with any claim. Thanks in advance
