Number Plate Illumination

Can anyone give us some really quick advice?? Getting my SV1000S ready for MOT and it looks like the tail has been changed at some point - there is no white light illumination and I'm wondering whether that will be an MOT fail or if it dorsn't need one??

Damn garages knocking off early on a Saturday!

Thanks!

Bizarely

enough - got mine MOT'd at the weekend.

Bike in front of mine had had a tail tidy fitted. Got picked up on not having a reflector (red).

Simple solution was to add £1 to the MOT cost and fit a self adhesive reflective 'dot' on the number plate. With the words "it'll get it through the test but it 'may fall off later"...

Mike - MOT Manuals

check the link, the first line of the information section states " This inspection applies to: all vehicles"

Compare the two manuals - Class I & II for bikes & Class III, IV & VII for cars & light goods vehicles here - they differ somewhat regards lighting requirements.

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/index.htm

PS - my day job is a VOSA engineer - I work with MOT standards every day - bikes don't need a number plate lamp for the MOT.

Stand up Mike....no need for bowing.

It's just one of those odd bits of legislation - :winkie:

I wired in an LED lamp when I fitted a tail tidy on my GSXR & stuck on one of those 10p coin sized reflectors - but dont ask me about my number plate & exhaust :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Verdict

Got the test done and as has been mentioned quite a bit on here - no need for tail light illumination so long as there is a red reflector on the tail somewhere (which I have) so no fail there...

...shame it failed on the front brake pads!
