FORK OIL

Cleaning the bike today and noticed a milky residue on one fork leg.I know the fork oil has not been changed for at least 4 years and i was wondering if now is the time to change it.There is no seepage down the fork leg so i am not worried about seals as yet.could anyone suggest what weight of oil to use?The bike is a cb750f2v and is used mainly for commuting.
