Cal Crutchlow ends pre-season in style with fantastic fifth

The British rider’s stunning winter testing form continued when a quickest lap of 1.39.585 put him ahead of Valentino Rossi and Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team-mate...

Note the above; whereby it says And he was only a fraction behind factory rider Ben Spies in fourth.

And some people on this forum appear not to rate Cal. His results (although in testing) are speaking for themselves.

Now is your time Cal. Well Done. I am really looking forward to this season.

Can't decide whether it's a good decision for tech 3 to sign smith for next year, on one hand it will bring the best out of cal and dovi but on the other is can't see smith doing as well as either of them, unless tech 3 run a crt bike next year and he's on that

Good news

Best testing results we've seen so let's hope he can translate them into some consistent top-6 finishes and maybe challenge for a podium if the factory guys tangle and leave an opening.

Keep it up Cal. Here's looking forward to a better season and 'maybe' (very 'maybe') in with a shout for a podium this season. Anythings possible.

Agree with you R6nutter...

That photo is awesome... love the new livery, dark and menacing. Thinking about it Cal does look like a "lump" on the thing but respect is due. Herve' reckoned on some consistent top 5's out of him. Granted it is testing but he was on it all day Sunday. Let's hope he can translate that to the humanoid pack trailing the aliens.

Poor Cal

who is Muchtooslow...He could not beat Slowesland Rookie season where he came 11th.....LOL was Cal Rookie of the year in 12th place.....WTF...Oh Lordie Lordie!!!! ,,.... that really sounds effed up, to get a trophy based on 12th place. Shit. Nothing like a Ben Spies Rookie of the year QUALITY of 6th place  a pole, a 3rd and 2nd place that is bringing honor back to the award.

Can we expect a pole and podiums from apeman. It's the same competition Spies had on the 800cc bikes that was totally new to him and going against riders on them from 2007, 2008 and 2009. It's looking no good for Cal who is much too slow. See ya in WSBK ... or swinging from a tree yelling OOOOHHHHHHYYYYYAAAAAAAA!!

Just a tidbit of additional info - Spies has never expended more than about 95% effort at any test that I can recall since I've been a fan (2005). Dovi will need to up his game to stay on the same lap as Ben this year. Cal is riding well in these tests so far but he too needs to up his race craft this year to play with Ben. It should be fun and interesting to see if they can step up and do it. I will be watching. Go Spies!!!
