Qatar MotoGP: Arm pump halts Casey Stoner’s victory bid

Casey Stoner’s hopes of a fifth victory in six years in the season’s opening MotoGP race in Qatar were thwarted by a severe right arm pump issue that dropped the Australian back into third spot. The Repsol Honda looked in complete control of the 22-lap race at the floodlit Losail International Circuit when he suddenly dropped his pace with five laps...

Arm pump, bad back & sickness excuses

Simply translates into... "I couldn't win the race today so i 'll just blame it on something rather than admitting a better rider beat me" It is the one and only thing that i have always hated about Stoner... Well, that and his fans!!

would it make it easier for you to bear if everyone just believed every riders comments, or perhaps added a 'rider' to their own comments?

Like the pun, but no, it wouldn't, things have got slightly out of context. Obviously it's a forum and forums are full of people discussing their opinions on various subjects. But one or two seem to think they know exactly what happened in a race, what the rider was thinking, doing, why he was doing it, how his machine was behaving etc. and STATE that to be the case, rather than forming an opinion based on reasoned facts.

Typical case in point is Moaner's comment below. Any excuse to take a pop at a rider he dislikes. What did he see in the race to come to that conclusion - he doesn't say. Wonder why..?

Facts...

Bautista had arm pump at Qatar in 2011 and he claimed it was casued by his new gloves. Lorenzo came 3rd at Qatar in 2011 and he said he slowed down with arm pump. Stoner did not expect to get arm pump and there is nothing in his preperation that would have stopped it. He signalled to his pit crew that he had arm problems about half way through the race when he had a two second lead. Good of him to create an excuse with 11 laps to go. There was nothing wrong with his tires. He lost because he slowed down due to arm pump, not because Lorenzo or Pedrosa suddenly went any faster. You can see that in the lap charts if you can be bothered looking. No arm pump and he would have won. Nobody called Bautista names for claiming new gloves caused arm pump. Nobody gave Lorenzo a hard time for claiming arm pump slowed him down.

you dont get arm pump from new gloves, if you did they would have to be two sizes to small, and the amount of money that there gloves cost i dont think that would happen, he did not put the time in testing end off.

Moaner...

"I couldn't win the race today so i 'll just blame it on something rather than admitting a better rider beat me"

But the better rider(s) on the day did beat him... that goes without saying (unless you struggle with the concept of 1st, 2nd, 3rd?)... he was 3rd across the line where it counts... he was explaining why he came 3rd...why he wasn't the best rider on this occasion...

You clearly have an issue with his explanation. You quote it as your reason for disliking Stoner but it doesn't follow any logic. I hate him 'cos he explains why he wasn't the best rider rather than admitting he wasn't the best rider... you, an illogical Stoner hater?... the thought of it!

He didn't say the gloves caused the arm pump did he. He said they probably didn't help. Distinct difference.

One of the first questions you're asked by consultants about arm pump is whether your garments are too tight around the wrist - that includes sleeves and gloves. They can contribute as they can restrict muscle expansion, they aren't generally a direct cause.

Time in testing is not a guaranteed cure for arm pump.

i have raced motocross for yrs kx500 for some off them, and know all about arm pump, and never had a pair off gloves contribute to it, only thing that helped me was riding every week, and plenty of porn.

Fair enough - I believe you. But like he said, he was just musing that the only thing he'd changed was a pair of gloves, but he didn't say they were the cause.

I also rode (still do) every week and more with practise when I had the time and no amount of time on the bike stopped the arm pump, even an operation didn't cure it.

No comment on the porn but as I'm left handed, would make no difference...

his own fault

maybe if he wasnt so lazy he could have avoided this. ie do some race distances in testing so that this sort of thing can be found out and sorted before its to late. as apposed to his 3 laps and in idea. the only cure for arm pump as mentioned on here by another mx rider is to ride, (alot) unless he thought all that self loving cuz of his missis being pregnant was gonna sort it.
