Brands Hatch BSB: Second superbike race cancelled

The second superbike race of the 2012 BSB season opener at Brands Hatch has been cancelled after fuel was spilled during the British Supersport race. Pauli Pekkanen crashed during the second supersport race of the weekend at the final corner and re-mounted, not knowing his bike was leaking fuel. The race was red-flagged and the team at Brands Hatch cleaned up...

Should start the season later

Why do they always start the bsb this early?the weather is very changeable this time of year, last week it was like summer this week it's like winter, so why not start the season at the end of april

Next brands event

They come back to Brands later in the season do they not? For the full circuit?

They could then maybe do one race on the Indy and the rest on the full, so the track for the missed race is the same?

Trying to run a race on the Indy circuit whilst all the teams are geared up for the the Gp circuit is a none starter imo. It adds too much extra work for the teams.

The easiest solution is to wipe todays 2nd race from the calender. It's unfortunate but there's no need to add probs to a future round.

Run the cancelled race

Dont Agree Pacey

I think it is brilliant that Stuart Higgs considers the fans in that they will run a extra race at a meeting later to make up for this missed race and it gives the riders another chance to get some points on the table

and us true fans cant get enough of BSB

3 race rounds.......

are nothing new to BSB and make up for weekends like this. BSB is one of the best organised series ever so there is no fear of us missing out on a race even when it has been cancelled. look at Brands when it snowed, mondello when it flooded and knock hill last year when it was washed out :) doesn't matter when you start the series this is the UK and we have weather!

the only thing that spoiled today for me was that while the racing was stopped due to a slippery track, the cause of the crash in the restarted  super sport race was not the track condition but ben wilson who was diving down the inside trying to make up for a bad start and had no hope of making the corner. before anyone gets too excited by that just listen to what jimmy hill said about it when he was asked and he had a ring side seat. also billy connel (who was lucky to not get badly hurt) also blamed wilson for the crash.

that being said, rereunning the race at a dry round can only make for better spectating. Go BSB it's the BEST racing on TV atm

2nd race

Whilst I agree that the re run for the second cancelled race should take place at Brands, the option to stage one race on the Indy circuit and the remainder on the GP is a non starter, as the bikes have to be set up entirely differently for the two circuits and with the one bike ruling, it would be a logistical nightmare for the teams. One good thing with the weather was that it took only 10 mins to get out the parking area rather than the usual hour!

Bring on Thruxton.

True BSB Fans

Those that paid there entrance fees yesterday are the true supporters of bike racing in britain, I am sure stuart higgs want to repay there support with rerunning the race. Well done to all those that went through the turnstyles yesterday at brands.

Re-running the race at a later date does not benefit the fans who turned up unless they get free tickets and the race is held at Brands Hatch.

If I live in Kent near Brands Hatch and I have to travel to Knockhill to see the re-run as well as pay for a ticket then I ain't going to bother.

Indy & GP could work!

Why not run the cancelled race on the Saturday at the next Brands meet. Sure there are different settings for the Indy and GP circuit BUT they could run the Indy on Sat morning and then have qualifying for the GP race in the afternoon.

It would good value for those wanting to go on the Saturday.
Teams have data and settings for the GP circuit from last season, and those who don’t get the chance to set up during free practice on the Thurs / Fri. Everyone already has setting for the Indy from this weekend.
Just a thought.

Wash out

What a disaster that was then? A true waste of time and money. And its scandalous there are so many meetings down south. Now Assen is on the calendar lets rename it 'BSB for those in the South'.............
