I have read that too, in Asphalt and Rubber if I remembr correctly. There is much print about the RSV4 starting out as Aprilia's replacement for the Cube. It certainly had absolutely nothing to do with "joining motoGP via the back door". I assume by that you mean CRT but when this engine was developed (let alone it's inception, drawing, board approval) there was no CRT nor was it even suggested as a possibility- the class was moving from 990cc to 800cc and there was no intention or movement for non prototype engines being permissable. Had they been it could've saved several high profile privateer teams... {FYI: who says one cannot have adjustable parts in WSB?}
