Do you like the new BMW NineT?

Yesterday, BMW revealed its new R NineT in Munich. Reactions within our comments to the launch yesterday have been mixed - but what do you think?

The gold colored forks are totally out of place and disgusting.

No, BMW Can't Do Sexy

There is a funny social anecdote that Germans don't produce comedians.  In the same way, they can't really do sexy.  Although other German brands have been successful in making sexy vehicles from time to time, for BMW it's function over form every time.

I know they think they can do sexy, but it's not in their DNA.  So they made a big stink about this bike with a generic looking prototype made by an American which looks even worse, like it was made from off the shelf cafe racer parts.

If BMW wants to create Sexy bikes they need to stop designing by committee, which is impossible for such a massive conglomerate.  And don't use the Boxer for that purpose.  Granted their bike division is tiny, but still it's run like a massive conglomerate.

The rear end of this bike looks detached from the rest of the bike.  Like it was tacked on.  That's just one thing that doesn't fit.

Their bikes aren't shaped and formed to be liked by us, but by them.  They are first and foremost a German company and they don't let us forget it.  Why do you think they have shoved the phrase "Motorrad" down people's throats for so long?  For all the moto brands in the world it's Motorcycles, but that's not good for BMW, it has to be Motorrad, even though the term actually alienates us and doesn't bring a sense a community -- it creates distance between the non-German buyers and the brand.

So, note to BMW.  Just release what you want, but don't ask people if they like your designs.

Designed by committee

Destined to languish in garages for 344 days a year - and one of the road days will be annual trip to get that all important BMW service stamp.

I like some of it, but not the whole.  It looks like a parts bin special.

Needs a little work

I like it but would fit clip ons, a tail tidy, twin pipes (one each side) and cafe racer seat pod

Different but the same...????

Yes, the bike is different yet somehow, it feels familiar?

Could it be typical BMW?

I like it, but price (£11-12K) would knock it back to being a 2nd or 3rd bike, if i had that kind of spare cash to throw around.

Still, not too bad actually and fit and finish looks good, whether it is in reality and test of time shows, we can only hope.......

Lame

A shadow of what the original design illustrations promised, another yawn from BMW (Boring Modular W++k). The last exciting bike they released was the oddball cruiser r1200c.
