 ...persist with the "highly successful showdown" (ahem, MCN, really?) I would like the maths to be such that it IS possible for a rider in, say, 7th if he won every ace in the showdown to still win the title. Surely both this possibility AND a 'showdown' could be contrived?


 Alternatively, and preferably, permit the most successful rider over the whole season should be champion.
