Possibly 500,000 bikes are involved

The 51,000 units are only for North America, there are possibly upwards of 500,000 BMW motorcycles involved in this recall.

Basically any marginal profit BMW Motorrad may have made from their recent sales surge just went out the door.

Loss of a small amout of petrol?

Depends on how long the leak goes on for I would have thought. Or maybe the possiblility of a very small fire!! How to understate a very real danger!

Bit of a shame...

One of the strange benefits of buying a mass produced bike though. If there's a problem with one then it's only a matter of looking at the data and pinpointing ALL that may be affected then contacting the owners.

Doesn't seem a great big issue and MCN is clearly leading part of the campaign to ensure that the issues are resolved without any needless injuries or inconvenience.

Good story brough to the masses thanks to the power of the media.
