I can confirm that if you are using the motorway in Switzerland, you defiantly need a bollo, even if you are just travelling through. You can risk it but if you get caught it is a hefty on the spot fine.

You will need one for both Switzerland and Austria if you plan to use Motorways. They are available from Petrol stations close to the borders once you've crossed into those countries. They are not very expensive, just ask at the pay kiosk and they will issue you one.
