Video: MT-09 Group Test

At £6799, Yamaha's three-cylinder MT-09 promises super naked thrills and supersport speed, but at a budget commuter price. But how close is it really to any of them? To find out, we put it through a multi-disciplined test against typical examples of each, around town, down motorways, along backroads and even on track.)

MT09

I would highly recomend getting any new bike set up at a suspension specialist, it has transformed many of my bikes, not just comfort but the balance, braking, tyre wear and there suitability which overall has a massive influence on confidence and not as expensive as you might think. My first choice pound  for pound on improving any bike before increasing performance !!

My better half users hers for instructing on and loves it. I have tried it and I must say if you are in the right mode for the situation there is nothing wrong with the throttle.  A is not meant for town work put it in B and see a 59mpg + return. Suspension mm thats the only thing to be honest they should have spent more on.

the throttle

is fine if in the right mode thats why it has 3, i agree with the suspension though and will be getting mine set up, although for everyday use even the suspension is fine, where the mt excels is its power delivery across the rev range, and i love the design of it and riding position, as birchie said b mode is great around town and i really dont notice any snatchyness, std and A mode are great when your out on faster roads.

Yes........ it was me and three other MCN Staff......... Michael Neeves Invited Me after my posts on here , regarding the MT09 ........and we spent two and a half days riding Four different Bikes in a lot of different situations, including Donington  race track (mostly Wet) and all types of Roads .....motorways, A roads, B roads, City Centre's and we all agreed that the Honda CB1000r was the best bike of the four....overall...... Personally, I loved the GSXR600.... it was so Tight and focussed but you really had to be in a Higher gear Everywhere to be in with a chance of keeping up with the MT09 and CB1000r on the road...... The Yamaha 600 Diversion was the only Bike I would have Chosen for my 240 mile Trip home..... But for pure Fun....the MT09....was the Outstanding bike of the Test........Simon initially hated it , but at the end, He said. it was the only one that he would actually Buy........It's that kind of bike.......... I've been riding my Busa today.....Totally  different.....where the MT shines is  everywhere from nought to about one hundred.....It's totally Bonkers.....the Busa starts at about One hundred...... and not a lot really compares once you get into third gear and beyond...... I love Tracks now........
