Aleix Espargaro aims for ‘dream’ top five in 2014

Aleix Espargaro has set his sights on a ‘dream’ top five finish in the MotoGP world championship this season after the Spaniard was the major surprise package of winter testing. Riding the new Forward Yamaha YZR-M1 Open class machine, the Spaniard has been the revelation in the off-season with top four finishes in both Sepang tests last month. And he headed the...

Sights set a little low

There's only three Aliens out there. Fourth position is very much up for grabs with any number of contenders.

Really looking forward to some Espargaro on Espargaro action. Just how strong is this brotherly love bond?

I was hoping you meant they had twin sisters...

He's very good, he has a good bike, a podium shouldn't be beyond hope at some circuits, given his long run test pace. Then there's the possibility they can make the soft tyre work at some circuits.

And now Dorna have finally clarified the class rules (Factory 2 is gone before it ever came....) they definitely won't be subject to any penallties should they achieve podiums as they are running under Open.

Ducati are back in the Factory class but allowed to run with Open benefits as the new criteria for that is that the factory haven't won a dry race for 3 years. So Ducati are back on their own software, not Dorna's. But they face penalties in the shape of fuel and then losing the soft tyre, the latter if they start winning.

Things at the podium end just may start to get interesting.

There is no fourth Alien

An Alien is a regular winner in MotoGP - that's three of them then.

Dark horses

Cant rule out Espargaro for a Podium in Qatar - the Dukes could be in with a shot too.
So whats the word from Honda - Control ECU for all in 2016...

If Rossi was the "GOAT", then IMO he would've done more on the Ducati apart from the occasional podium. Yes it was, and still is, a bit of a dog at the time (relatively speaking), but he was win less on that thing when others have won on it. I'm not Rossi bashing here, or being anti-Rossi, because he is an excellent rider, but Lorenzo and Marquez are a step above him now.

As for AEsp, I will qoute CEII here; “How old is he, 24? It'd be nice to be 24 again... Fresh balls. Young, dumb!"
