Ben Spies: ‘I’ll never race again’

Ben Spies has admitted the serious shoulder injury that forced him into premature retirement last year will never recover sufficiently enough to allow the Texan race again. The triple American superbike champion first damaged his right shoulder at the end of 2012 when he crashed out of a rain-lashed Malaysian round while riding for Yamaha’s factory squad. Spies moved to the Ignite...

**** all that other stuff Ben

Get him in the commentary booth full time. He's worth a thousand Moody's, Huewen's, Ryder's, Toseland's and Spaldings.

Ben's effortless ability to talk all aspects of MotoGP from the act of riding to a riders mindset, technical details and astute observations was fantastic to listen to. All from the fresh perspective of a rider who was there five minutes ago, all due respect to Huewen.

A shame for him and us such injuries took him out of the game too soon. I firmly believe we didn't get to see the best of Ben Spies on a MotoGP bike.

In the last 5 years there have only been 6 race winning MotoGP riders. I'm not saying that he would have been a champion, but it seems like people are dismissive of anyone who isn't in the hunt. Look at the grid as a whole. He was a solid rider when he was healthy and his bike was working. You also have to take into account the fact that he isn't a midget like so many of the European riders.

Perspective!

Ben Spies didn't do any commentary !

What he did do was answer questions most eloquently on a subject about which he has current first-hand knowledge and it was most informative.   Commentary though was done by Ryder and Huewen.
