Please take care in my back garden

Awful weekend for our brethren in Wales recently brings a spotlight on our activities this year. Commiserations to all those affected. Before you start typing a typical anti car /anti Welsh police type backlash consider this: The skill sets and road appreciation needed to ride in rural areas are different to the skill set of riders from a mainly urban area. Also note some of the fatalities involve local riders who should have the right skill set. What the article does not say is that there has also been a spate of road fataliites this year involving car drivers. Our roads do not have run off areas. They do have tractors, trailers, caravans, livestock and distracted tourists looking at the views. They also have an older generation of drivers who will treat rural roads as a personal meeting place. They might also not have much traffic - but ride on the limit at your peril because the roads often have poorly maintained surfaces, lack of grip, high banks and blind corners. Sorry to sound pompous - but in a rural area we often know those involved in accidents.

Please ride safe.

Riding in rural areas brings a whole new set of thought processes.

Peter Rabitt...

You don't sound pompous at all... You've got to respect rural roads and not just in wales either..

No run off

Here, if you make an error in judgment, you either hit a cliff wall, or fall down a massive drop.

Guard rails are generally lumps of concrete (not fixed in) and verges are concrete gullies, that will shatter anything that hits them.

It's dangerous out there. It always has been.

Hate to say it

but rabbits right, every man and his dog jumps on bikes at this time of year and thinks they are Rossi. I don't know about the urban v rural bit but rather it's the difference between year round biking and summer madness. And of course Wales is a great playground.

Locally we had two bikers die in one weekend poor sods, no one goes out on the road to get killed by some numpty driver. So you need to take every precaution possible you may possess the skills to ride at 120mph but has the idiot you are passing/ gaining on got the skills not to do something stupid?
Ride safe.
