XJR1300 CUT OUT WHILE IDLE

Hi am new to here hoping someone could give me a little advice. I have just bought a 2008 xjr1300 everything is great, runs really well but today I took it round to show some of my friends my new bike I parked it up and left it idling while we talked I would say maybe after 20 minutes it just turned off, the bike started up fine straight after and I took it for a spin after that and it was fine. Is that normal or do I have a problem? It was a hot day never really thought to turn it off as I was trying to charge the battery as the previous owner hadn't covered many miles over the last year. Any help would be great am hoping that its nothing.

Thanks

Hi sweetmeister

Charging systems do not work at idle.

Long periods of engine idle are not good for the engine.

Fuel has been known to evaporate from fuel systems when allowed to get over heated.

As smidget states, you are lucky that your engine is ok.

Read the handbook.

20 mins idling

Its an air cooled engine, why on earth would you allow it to sit and idle for so long???????? you're asking for trouble, as stated earlier you have been lucky to get away with no serious problems occuring!!!!!!!!!!

Am an idiot

Thanks for the replies, am an idiot! I have never had an air cooled bike before and was not thinking. I wont be doing that again. After googling last night I am sure its got a safety feature that cuts the bike off when it gets to hot just hope thats the case.
