Hondas' Russian Roulette?

Does this not prove how utterly dim some people are in the racing fraternity? You would never send your star rider out on a test session when the conditions are anything but ideal - either totally dry or fully wet, not mixed conditions! Thankfully he was not injured but he could have been injured badly enouugh to wipe out his second title shot and who would have taken the blame? One wonders if HRC should take a closer look at who organises these sessions. Better to sit out a test session entirely than risk your star asset.

Yeah and while you're at it

Put a clause in his sporting contract that he's not allowed to ride any form of motorcycle full stop like they do with those other fookwit sports. It was Marc on the bike. Marc pushes to Marc's level. His call. Jeez.....

You're suggestiing MM doesn't test his bikes outside of the race weekends?

MM and Dani probably gave their right arms for this test and if he breaks his leg, so be it, that's motorcycle testing.

If Honda were that worried about thei rider on a race weekend they'd just get a time on the board in one session to get into qualifying (easy for MM) and sit in the garage for the duration.

These riders get little enough time on the bikes as it is, inferring manufacturers should mollycoddle their 15 million hotshot is facile, sorry.

Honda want their bikes tested and MM wants to get time on the bike, it's not rocket science to work out why the risks are taken by both.

not mollycoddle but be sensible

Given that HRC is not exactly poor why go testing in Brno when even an English weather man could tell you that you are likely to get rain. They could have gone somewhere were they had more than a 85% chance of getting dry conditions. This is a case of 'doing it on the cheap' as they were in Germany for the GP so we don't want to go too far. If you respect your riders you would find them better places to test at.  As for doing a 'wet weather tyre test'....why bother?  As if it when it rains hard they all fall off anyway (well Cal does).

So he had an off, so what?

The big issue is that he walked away unscathed and gave HRC even more potential electronic wizardry  to play with in anticipation of similar scenarios at any other venue.

The factory riders have to exploit opportunity given the chance. Failing which, you have the likes of that ex Ducati self styled test rider testing his limits rather than the kits limits. Forget his name now, but you see him a lot around Rossi's Moto3 outfit these days. You know, the bloke with the electric shock hairdo. Help me out Nostro, you know who I'm talking about. The bloke put in the miles at every opportunity and did nothing for the outfit nor the bikes development. He was managing the GP Team. Glad Ducati are shot of him anyway. Back to Marquez, he will have dialed that crash into his RAM as a future reference point and he sure as hell would not have pointed a finger at HRC test strategy had he picked up a bunch of contusions or worse.

dozyhonda (is there such a thing?)

Brno is the ideal place to test.

It is close to Sachsenring. It is a long lap. Huge fast corners and no BS chicanes, nope, not even one. It is amongst every racers favorite if not THE favorite! Yours truly included. Great facilities. It has horse power hill. Just one of 6 .... yes 6 full power straights. Bet Rossi would lick his dogs balls to get a test there to sort out the acceleration on that "dog" of an M1.

Cause of crash released by HRC

It was not the weather that caused MM crash but he was trying out their new rear braking system, called BHBS (Broom Handle Braking System). It was designed by a mad frenchman but not as mad as the frenchman who designed the ELF 500 GP bike. Apparently it was Marc's first attempt and he could not release it before the apex. All ended in tears I'm afraid. Good to hear he is ok and they can work on the 2015 bike tomorrow.

For more info on BHBS and other upgrades to the RCV see my 15 July 2014 15:39 post from the other thread. Marquez and Pedrosa plan to debut 2015 Honda in Brno test.
