The most beautiful novice 125cc bike money can buy – yes, it even outclasses Yamaha’s YZF-R125 and biggest competitor Aprilia RS125. The Cagiva Mito SP525 is essentially the long-running two-stroke Cagiva Mito 125 brought up to date in every area and then dressed in bodywork to honour John Koscinski’s 500GP efforts onboard the Cagiva V594 circa 1994. In unrestricted form its claimed 30bhp (approx) performance means anyone on their two-year licence probation period can make use of its sporty nature. Effectively two bikes for one price with a lot of fun.

4 out of 5 (4/5)

The Cagiva Mito SP525 is nothing but pure sports focussed. Compact, quick steering, light, with firework-like performance in full-power form (14.5bhp restricted). Think 125cc MotoGP machinery and you’ll be very, very close to how the Cagiva Mito SP525 behaves. But it is a road bike, for this reason the bike is also stable and the suspension is road biased (not hard, not soft, just suited to deal with road riding).

4 out of 5 (4/5)

Based on Cagiva’s original Mito 125, the SP525’s engine has undergone a revamp to keep it functional within the boundaries of tightening emissions regulations. Two catalysers in the exhaust, an electronic two-stroke oil pump and ECU controlled carb are part of the clean-running process. In unrestricted form the engine is unstressed; derestricted will see the return of explosive two-stroke performance…

3 out of 5 (3/5)

Component quality has never been an issue with the Cagiva Mito, it’s just the bikes always, always get a hard time from youthful owners. Keep it clean and serviced and there’s no reason why so many secondhand Cagiva Mitos should look like they’ve only just survived a nuclear holocaust. Engine-wise it should fare well in restricted form. When full power is sprung free the engine will undoubtedly get a hard time – after all it is only a 125cc machine and most seventeen year-olds will struggle to maintain a high performance two-stroke.

3 out of 5 (3/5)

A quid short of £4000 is a lot of money for a 125cc machine in anyone’s book. But what a machine! If you can afford the mostest 125cc machine available then the Cagiva Mito SP525 is exceptional value. Otherwise the Yamaha YZF-R125 and others are very much value for money. Equipment

3 out of 5 (3/5)

Modern running gear and up to date engine ancillaries are part and parcel. If full marks could be given to just plastic then the Cagiva Mito SP525’s bodywork rates 5 out of 5. Brembo single front brake and non-adjustable Marzocchi forks work fine up front, the Sachs rear shock is preload adjustable only. Compare and buy products for the Cagiva Mito SP525 in the MCN Shop.

Year: 2009

Annual servicing cost: £400

I bought my mito in 2009 and had it on the road for six months , due to personal health I had to stop riding it . Other the years I've lost my key and my v5 registrAtion form , the bikes done a litlle over 1500 hundred miles ,, could you send me in the right direction on how to get a new key that is a standard cagiva key or can I get a standard key cut and it work the barrel because I was told the key that I got originally was a certain type that had a chip or somthing in it to work the fuel injectors

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

The best 125 I've ridden and I've ridden a few . The stability and power to bring the bike back up was like riding a light weight Cbr 500 .. Once the bike is at maximum perforce I'd rate it 10/10

Engine 5 out of 5

Apart from seals and gaskets the engine couldn't be any any better I can't wait to sup mine up to the 500 cc

Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5

Love it , it has made the 125 look a beast I loved throwing mine round knee to the floor 😎

Value vs rivals 4 out of 5

Only had one service due to being off the road sine it had its first service

Equipment 3 out of 5

The first week of having mine my front brake calliper jumped off and went into my front wheel, lucky I was just rolling through traffic otherwise I would have been fucked lol .

Buying experience: I bought mine brand new 0.1 miles on the clock , I didn't ride it for ; hours I love it but need some help on finding a mechanic in Hertfordshire

5 out of 5 My review of the SP525

I think it looks brilliant for a little 125cc sportbike! Overal I rate it 5 stars because for what it is for your A1 license this is THE sport bike if you can find it and have enough money. Also I have owned an Aprilia RS and I can say that this handels just an edge beter through corners. It feels like you are rocketing it on an Mini MotoGP bike, with some lights and soft demping. It rides spot on where you want it to be and is a lot more comfortable als you would think on first glance, but and it is a big one you are always in racy sport mode on the bike so your neck will hurt when you ride long distance. even though it isn't the most comfortable for long rides (and that is me saying a bloke that is 5 foot 11'), it makes you smile so hard through the twisties and just generates a lot of fun.. So that is why I have to give it 5 stars for Ride and handeling. Equipment is a bit lacking, it has those old school 90s ducati dash and eveything feels like it is modernized.. it stil is pretty cool to have to turn on the fuel. So that is why I give it 4 stars. Quality and Reliability are pretty strong for a 2 stroke I guess, the plastics are just so strong compared to Aprilia. Also everything feels so solid and every thing is from a High-grade brand; Brembo, Marzocchi, Sachs, Dell'orto to name a few. Reliability should not be a problem if it gets maintained as it should, the only times I broke down it was my own fault (because I was tuning it wrong). I will give it 4 starts because it stays a 2 stroke and never really can be reliable. Value is something I believe is objective, the price new is much for everyone.. but as I got one for a reasonable price I think I got value for money, but it stays a two stroke so you never know what you really but until you own it. never the less I give it 4 stars The enige is just SO awesome, it feels like a little beast and it definitely feels like everything is pulled out of whats in it. Mine is stil restricted but it still feels like a real solid engine for a 2 stroke. And because it makes just such a big fun factor I am giving it 5 stars. This is my review and is made out of my point of view.
