Motorcycle insurance bargains: Suzuki GSR600

Motorcycle insurance costs are an important consideration for any bike buyer. That's why MCN is highlighting some of the best cheap-to-insure motorcycles out there. This time it's the Suzuki GSR600.

Insurance group: 13
Engine: 599cc 16v inline four
Power: 88bhp
Top speed: 138mph
Weight: 183kg

The Suzuki GSR600 is a middleweight inline four in the same mould as Yamaha’s FZ6 and Honda’s Hornet 600. Plus it's only group 13 to insure.

The Suzuki GSR600 uses a de-tuned version of the motor from the GSX-R600 K4 and clips along at a fair rate. The 16v, DOHC motor revs to a dizzying 14,000rpm, but fortunately it’s not as peaky as the FZ6. The Suzuki GSR600 has decent torque and overtakes don’t necessitate a dance on the gear lever to be quick and safe.

The suspension lets the bike down a bit. Suzuki GSR600's shock is seven-way adjustable for preload and rebound but it’s over-damped and harsh. The forks, conversely, are too under-damped and soft, diving and bouncing back like a pogo stick. But this only really bubbles to the surface when you push on, otherwise you learn to live with it.
