New Rider: How to prevent your ignition freezing

1 of 1

These freezing conditions mean that your exposed ignition or fuel tank lock can get iced up solid. But try these quick fixes and long-term remedies and you should be up and running quickly.

If you’re at home heating the key with a hairdryer for a couple of minutes can work, while a fag lighter’s flame played up and down the metal part is a good roadside cure.

For that long-term solution, use some WD40 to repel any moisture lurking in there, then smear some Vaseline over the lock and use the key to work it into the mechanism properly where it can act as a barrier.
