CCM style, Suzuki power

THE first Suzuki-engined CCMs have just started rolling off the production line and MCN has been one of the first to try them.

The new R30, 604 Dual Sport supermoto and 604 Trail off-roader have had their older Rotax motors replaced with the new 47bhp, 644cc engine from Suzuki’s XF650 Freewind trailie.

For the full story, you’ll need to pick up a copy of MCN, out on Wednesday, March 20, this week.

We tried the new R30 and even on cold, greasy roads it was impressive. It feels much smoother than the older version thanks to a revised ignition and a twin carb set-up, which replaces the Rotax’s single carb.

CCM boss Peter Swift insisted the more refined motor wouldn’t make them any less fun. He said: ” They’ve still got their hooligan nature. I’ve just been out on the R30 for an hour and I’m still grinning from ear-to-ear. ”

The R30 also features a new double cradle frame, developed with help from CCM’s factory supermoto rider Stephane Mezard. The geometry is sharper, allowing you to throw it around more, but it hasn’t lost any of the older bike’s stability.

The bikes will go on sale at the end of this month. The 644 Trail will cost £4950, the Dual Sport will set you back £5195 and the R30 will be £5450. CCM has also introduced a starter deal that will let you ride away on an R30 for a deposit of £129. Details: 01254-296300.
