Aprilia debuts its Strada

Aprilia has unveiled its new Yamaha-powered Pegaso Strada among the glitz of the Munich Bike Show.

With an official launch on Tuesday morning (September 14) Aprilia uncovered a bike with supermoto-styling. And bosses say it is not a replacement for the Rotax-powered Pegaso – it will run alongside it.

The new Pegaso Strada uses the engine from the Yamaha XT660 to make around 50bhp. It weighs 168kg and is expected to be priced at around £5000.

The RSV1000 also gets a new look with a ‘lion’ paintscheme. The RSV R will get radial front calipers, there’s new injection mapping to boost torque at 4-6000rpm and new white tail-light and indicators.

Two new scooters, debuted in Italy this summer, were given their international launch at Munich – the SportCity 125 and 200 have 15in wheels and disc brakes front and rear.

The firm also confirmed that it is still on course to sign a deal to be bought by Piaggio, despite Ducati’s recent overtures. And boss Franco Pettanio assured us that Aprilia will carry on racing.
