My Winter Yamaha FZR400RR

1 of 1

Here’s my winter ride – a Yamaha FZR400RR EXUP 3TJ.

Look at the rake on the front forks and you’ll see why it was the best handling 400 of the 80s to early 90s.

People rate the VFR400, but I had one and the EXUP is better, in everything but torque. Besides, the competition from Honda at the time was the CBR400RR not the VFR.

Most linear power delivery of any bike I’ve owned, and I’ve owned a load. Exactly what you need when riding in the slush and diesel of the Welsh mountains in the winter.

Some people say its slow, but it’s not at 13,500rpm I can assure you. And it gets there fast. Inever use first gear – it pulls away fine in second.

Does anybody know of a decent replacement exhaust for this bike ? This is my second 3TJ, if I could think of a better winter bike, I’d have that instead.
