Poll: Should the swerve test be banned?

1 of 1

The new motorcycle test has sparked a heated debate – is the swerve test fundamentally unsafe, or does the problem lie elsewhere? Have your say in our online poll below.

On the one hand, high profile trainer Sean Hayes defends the swerve test and claims lack of adequate training is the issue: “It’s not warp factor nine, it’s 31mph. If you can’t do it at that speed what hoope do you have when you go out and get a CBR600RR?

“A lot of training companies have simply not stepped up to the mark to match the highter standard now required.”

On the other hand, there have been 15 incidents in the first 3 and a half weeks of the new test. Conservative Shadow Roads Minister Robert Goodwill says this is not good enough: “Even if a small proportion of riders are invovled in accidents which result in injury, that’s not acceptable.”

What do you think? Have your say in our online poll.
