XC90 leaving the scene of an accident

At around 20:30 on Sunday 24 February a 16 year old girl riding a twist-and-go scooter was killed attempting to join the A31 a Ringwood, Hampshire. This is a particularly difficult junction, and the site of weekly accidents.

I saw this girl every morning (taking my own daughter to school) – all the proper gear, all the right moves. I’m aware that this is probably not that unusual, 30mph vehicles and 70mph roads don’t mix.

What is deeply disturbing is that (according to press reports) the driver of a Volvo XC90 presumably involved in this incident ‘left’ before the authorities arrived. XC90s in this area are not that common, and those with frontal damage even rarer.
