Brunstrom: "The man is not human" says widow

The widow and father of the decapitated biker paraded by Chief Constable Richard Brunstom have both called for his immediate dismissal.

Images of Mark Gibney’s horrific injuries were shown to journalists last week without the permission of the family. The photographs showed Gibney’s decapitated head lying on a grass verge and his torso embedded in a car.

William Gibney, Mark’s father, has branded Brunstrom’s actions “appalling” and explained how he tried to keep the extent of his son’s shocking injuries from his wife and family.

Gibney said that Brunstrom has overstepped the mark in his pursuit for publicity and is calling for his immediate dismissal. Gibney says he can never forgive Brunstrom for what he has done.

A statement was also read out on behalf of Eileen Burke, Mark Gibney’s widow.

She said: “I knew that Mark died in a motorcycle accident, but I didn’t know the extent of his horrific injuries.

“My eldest son Mark is devastated over the death of his father and the injuries he suffered, which he now knows for the first time because of the unacceptable behaviour of the Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom.

“He had no feelings toward me, my children and my partner. To say that I am angry about his actions is an understatement.

“I hope Richard Brunstrom is removed from his position because I wouldn’t want any other family to go through what I’m going through now because of his disrespectful and callous behaviour.

“The man is not human and he has no heart.”

Brunstrom responded to the outrage not by issuing a full and frank apology but by blaming the press – he has accused a “small section” of the media for distorting the meeting “for their own purposes”.

Meanwhile 500 MCN readers have already registered to call for Brunstrom’s dismissal. If you’d like to add your name to the list, then email mcn.online@emap.com, now, with your full name and address.
