Milan Show: Updated BMW R1200GS Adventure revealed

For 2008 the BMW R1200GS Adventure, revealed at the Milan show, gets all of the updates and new features introduced on the standard model, plus a few Adventure-specific parts to improve distance and off-road ability.

The larger 33-litre tank is good for a range of up to 465 miles, riding at a constant speed of 90km/h. The screen is taller too.

Bigger off-road footrests and adjustable gear/rear brake pedals are added to the new adjustable bars, and the seat is in two pieces to allow the rider’s saddle to adjust between seat heights of 895mm and 915mm.

Tough tubular steel crash bars and pannier rails are fitted as standard, and aluminium cylinder head covers are vital for protecting the vulnerable rocker covers. Panniers are included, and an optional top box fits on to mounting points fitted as standard.

The Adventure comes with spoked steel wheels instead of cast alloy for more resilience to rocks, and off-road biased tyres are fitted as standard. The sizes are identical to the road bike however – a 19” front and 17” rear will accept road tyres if you prefer. The front and rear suspension has longer spring travel too.
