First impressions from the Harley Davidson X1200R launch

1 of 1

Harley Davidson is launching its European only Flat Track inspired XR1200R in and around Valencia road test editor Phil West has been riding the motorcycle today for MCN.

Here are Phil’s first thoughts from the launch.

“It’s clear Harley have put a lot of work and time into their new enduro-specific XR, in fact it has been in development for a full two years since it got the green light in 2006 and from my first ride it’s genuinely something new for the American marque.

“The 90bhp 1200cc Sportster derived engine is fruity and fun, it reminds me of Ducati’s Sport classic albeit in a chunky, heavier sort of way.

“Even though it’s quite laid back the fact that it’s got decent suspension and brakes, a novelty itself on a Harley Davidson, means it’s adequate and competent enough to throw around on the twisty Spanish mountain roads.’

See the full road test in next week’s MCN out on Wednesday April 16, 2008.
