New bike registrations up by 8.6%

Registrations of new powered two-wheelers rose by 8.6% in 2007 compared with 2006 figures, whilst passenger car registrations only rose by 2.5%.

New motorcycle registrations rose by 9.7%, while scooters rose by 9.1%. Mopeds were 4% up on the 2006 figure.

The Yamaha YBR125 was the biggest selling powered two-wheeler, with 2272 bikes sold. The next biggest selling motorcycle was the GSX-R1000 at third place in the table with 2196 bikes sold, followed by the Yamaha R1 at 2106 bikes sold. Seven of the top ten bikes were sportsbikes.

Top selling adventure sport bike was the R1200GS, selling 1235 bikes, followed by the new-for-2007 Triumph Tiger 1050, which sold 1046 units. BMW’s R1200GS came fourth in the class, selling 770 bikes. Overall, sales in the class rose 31.8% compared with 2006 figures.

Naked bikes also rose 13.4% year on year, with Yamaha YBR125 leading the class, followed by the Honda CB600F Hornet in second with 1070 bikes sold.
