UK Potholes costing £billions

1 of 1

A car warranty firm claims that potholed UK roads are costing motorists billions of pounds in repairs.

Warranty Direct used claim data from nearly 500,000 cars and found that over one third and up to 47% of claims on individual brands were related to the suspension and steering. Compared with claims in the USA, some brands of car were several times as likely to suffer failures and warranty claims related to the steering.

Only 9% of claims on Jeep vehicles in the USA related to the steering and suspension systems, yet 47.14% of claims on UK Jeeps were put down to suspension and steering issues.

The average spent on suspension repair was £285.39 in 2007, and using this figure Warranty Direct estimate that the repairs cost over £2.8bn.
