Yamaha FZ8 and Fazer8 full pictures and information revealed

Yamaha has finally released the full details for the FZ8 naked and the half-faired Fazer8 after a drawn-out teaser campaign.

The bikes completely replace the FZ6 range, sitting as a sporty middleweight, leaving the XJ6 and Diversion for novice riders and riders on a budget.

The 779cc FZ8 and Fazer8 are both based on FZ1 frame and engine – the downsized engine has a smaller bore size but the same stroke, which will lend itself to a broad spread of torque rather than top-end power – Yamaha claim 104bhp with 60lbft of torque.

Both use the alloy beam frame from the FZ1, with upside down forks and a rising rate linkage for the rear shock absorber. Adjustability for both ends isn’t specified.

Four-piston monobloc Sumitomo calipers are used here – the same calipers used on countless Yamahas in the last 15 years.

The naked FZ8 weighs 211kg, and the Fazer8 tips the scales at 215kg. There’s an ABS braking option for both, which adds 5kg.

See the full technical details in next week’s MCN, on sale March 17.
