New Aprilia Tuono V4 - 'spirit of the old bike, cutting-edge tech'

The new 162bhp V4 Tuono has kept the style and soul of the bruising V-twin it replaces, according to the man who designed it.

The new bike follows the basic design principles of the original RSV1000 Tuono, which was a sportsbike with a super-naked restyle but few mechanical changes. It’s a formula that worked extremely well – the Tuono was enduringly popular, and is still regarded as one of the best sporty naked bikes. 

But the RSV twin has been phased out, so the next generation Tuono took the all-new RSV4 superbike as the basis – the first Aprilia superbike with an engine designed and built in house.

Miguel Galuzzi spoke to MCN at the Milan show as the RSV4 Tuono R was unveiled, explaining that it took more than tearing the plastics from an RSV4 to create it.
He said: “We wanted to keep the DNA of the old bike,” he explained. “That was the most difficult part, because the old bike was a big bike, and the new one is small. It was a bike you could ride hard, and we wanted to follow what the Tuono is and should be.

“It rides much better than the old bike, but it has kept the spirit of the old Tuono with the new Aprilia feeling.”
