Track day drama

Thought I’d share a recent experience I had at what initially was a great track day at the Angelsey circuit, North Wales.

The circuit is brilliant with good ammenities and the event initially well managed by No Limits. I ran in the intermediates group (my 4th or 5th track day). However in the second afternoon session and on the longest, straightest part of the track between Church and Rocket, travelling over 100mph, some complete clown came flying up the inside of me, presumably having lost his line, cut hard across the front of my Aprilia RSV and twatted my handlebars and fairing too quick for me to see the bike, rider or anything identifiable.

I din’t stand a chance, down I went onto my elbox and head before skidding for what seemed like an eternity across the tarmac then flipping onto the grass, thankfully coming to a halt still conscious, luckily the rest of the traffic on track was not close.

My injuries were relatively minor thanks to my leathers (Spyke), helmet, gloves and boots – all written off. The bike was pretty much wasted and I think will be better broken the more I look at the damage.

Not an unfamiliar story, accidents do happen but what got me was despite the session being stopped to collect the bike and get me back into the pits in front of all the riders, the goon responsible failed to make himself known to me or the track staff, an apology at least would have been appreciated!

None of the marshalls or other riders saw the incident and No Limits failed to contact me on the day though they did look into things when I contacted them the following week, no real help though. Shame – trackdays are normally a great experience though beware, sometimes expensive.
